Week 10 EOC: Standing Out in a Crowd

One of the ways that our presentation will stand out in the crowd is our whole design. Our team has came up with an amazing design. It is modern, hip, and perfect for a bachelor. It also fits the needs of a female because the bachelor will be having female friends over regularly. We came up with a great floor plan, elevations, great furniture and fixture choices, and a 3d model of floor plan. I think that the 3d model will be the "money shot" that will sell the design and wow the crowd. Every thing else including our PowerPoint presentation, website, and documents will stand out as well. Our take away will be a martini glass with possibly a wine bottle to go with it.

Week 9 EOC: Challenges of Classroom vs Real World

What are the biggest challenges of budgeting this classroom project? How do you think it compares to a similar project if you were really doing this for a client? What would happen if your budget was really off? Present a couple scenarios.

The biggest challenges of budgeting this classroom project is getting all the materials and estimating costs. We may be missing some important things such as materials and labor. If this were for a real client, it would be important that there arent any missing materials or labor costs. If the budget were off, it would really affect the project. It may slow down the project which would make the client angry. In the real world it is important that designers stay on top of everything to avoid problems. It could really affect future projects as well because the client will not refer us to any other clients if we mess up their project.

Wk 8 EOC: Scripts

Looking for the ultimate bachelor? 4 interior design students from the Art Institute of Las Vegas are doing just that. The students of the Art Institute have succeeded at getting their project out in the public by using a marketing system referred to as guerrilla marketing. The project for the “ultimate bachelor pad” is the project that the students are working on and to get their project out in the public they posted a video on Youtube mimicking the “dating game”. The video has gone viral and currently has 500,000 hits.
News Anchor 1: Today at 4:00pm, a team of designers spent the afternoon on the Las Vegas Strip in search of the “ultimate bachelor.” The 4 ladies stood in front of City Center’s Veer Towers talking to tourists as they walk by, mainly bachelors, trying to find the right guy to sell a studio apartment in the Veer Towers. Games, raffles, food and drinks were used to lure in the bachelors.

Week 7 EOC: Scheduling Issues

After signing a contract to move into the finished condo, the bachelor will be able to move in whenever he wants. It should not take more than a week for him to move in if everything is already provided for him and there should not be any scheduling issues. He could move in that same day if he wanted to. The only scheduling issue that will take place is the furniture shipment but that will be done before he moves in. It should take a few weeks to ship and no longer than a month. The materials will already be in a place and all the furniture will be inside. He will have his bed, all his living room furniture such as a television, sofa and coffee table. His bar and fridge will be fully stock with alcohol.

Wk 6 EOC: Professional Sales Presentation

I think a great way for us to present our idea is shoot a short video with us interviewing the type of client we are selling to which is the modern bachelor. We can do a Q&A about his lifestyle and even film him doing some of his daily routines and present that in our presentation.

Another thing we can do is create a commercial with the modern bachelor and the studio apartment that we are selling. It wouldn't take a great deal of time to create a commercial and it may even be a lot easier and will be able to work within our busy schedules.

We may also want to add a few more key points on our brochure that we left out.

WK 5: EOC Midterm

The first place group was my group which is 4 Interior Design. We had an awesome presentation and we did a great job on our website. We had planned out our project very well which is why we did a great job. "It is important to develop a plan before the start of the project, this plan should include all the work tasks, associated costs, and estimates of the time necessary to complete them." We had provided a lot of photos in our presentation and very little text which was good because it made our presentation interesting. We put in a lot of time and effort into our website and what made it so great is that 90 percent of our pictures were our own and not from the internet. We did a great job on the power point as well. We did have a few weak points however. We ran into some issues with our power point running too fast before we could even get a word out. But we tried our best not to stumble on our words. Adding music to our presentation was a nice touch. Overall I think as a team we gave 110% in the project. As the project manager, I was able to help my team come together and create a great presentation. "The challenge to the project manager is to prevent, anticipate, or overcome such circumstances in order to complete the project scope on schedule, within budget, and to the customer's satisfaction."

The second place group was KASE Interiors. Their power point presentation had a lot of typos. They could have also added more photos and less text. They did touch on a few good points, and their floorplan drawings and elevations were great but the overall presentation could have been worked on a little bit more. I think that this group had a different approach to this project. It was quite different from ours mainly because both groups didn't have a clear outline as to what was expected. I think that if we were told what exactly we needed to present, then our presentations would have sounded more alike. "A project involves a degree of uncertainty. Before the project is started, a plan is prepared based on certain assumptions and estimates."

Wk 4 EOC: Wow

There are many different ways that a person can capture the attention of their audience. But which one will give the ultimate “wow” factor? For the Veer Tower project, there are 3 ways that this can be achieved. The first idea is to show a short film that the group put together and show that to the audience. The second idea is to make a commercial. The commercial can advertise the Veer towers and show the specific client that the Veer Studio is selling to. The last idea is to somehow entertain the audience. Whether it be with music, a story, or food and drinks, entertainment will be a great way to keep the audience engaged.

WK3 EOC: Brilliant Ideas

4 Interior Design is a Las Vegas interior design company which will design the modern bachelor pad for the Veer Towers. The target market for this design project is a young male client in his early 30s, looking for a high end place to live on the strip. To locate the perfect bachelor to occupy the space, our team will have find ways to promote our design services. This can be done in three different ways. The first idea is to create fliers and placing them at information desks around town. The second idea is to go to certain locations where bachelors are found frequently, get to know them, and talk to them about our company. The third idea is to put a one page advertisement in a male’s magazine.

Week one: Project Management Institute

The benefit to becoming a member of the Project Management Institute is the ability to network with others. Additionally, being a member of the PMI will give you access to PMI publications, volunteer and leadership options. Being a member means that you are serious about your project management career.

Week 1: My Voice

Hello everyone, this is my first blog. I am an interior designer for both residential and commercial spaces. I do not have a preference, I enjoy designing for both. I love the fact that residential and commercial are different. There will always be a new project that is completely different from the other. There are times when I want to work more closely with the client and then there are times when I want to work on a much larger project with a group of people. It is important as a design to have the skills to work individually as well as with a team which is why I feel that I have been able to work in the interior design field successfully. At times the project can become very challenging and stressful, but I always look forward to the end result and how much of a rewarding feeling it is see your creativity come to life. I have always had a passion for interior design ever since I was very young. Blending colors, making spaces beautiful, functional, and safe for the client is what I enjoy. I am so glad that I made that step towards earning my bachelor’s degree at the Art Institute of Las Vegas because now I know that all the hard work I put into school has finally paid off and I am doing what I love to do.
